Magical Summer Tales

Small things, unimportant things you would think; well, think again: small things, unlikely synchronicities, ordinary magic, big joy…here we go:

Magic Ride No.1
hmm, my beloved summer pajamas give their last breath after many years of intensive use, split apart and die. I need new pajamas preferably shorts and soft cotton please I wish. And me not much liking to shop and prefer settling for what’s at hand, forget about it and travel to see my parents living in the seaside town of Alaçatı, İzmir Turkey. Our first night, my mom comes out of their room with a little package saying “Oh these pajamas were on sale and I thought I’d get them for you”…Perfect shorts and top, perfect soft colored feather design, perfect softness…perfect smile!

Magic Ride No.2
A dear friend from Germany comes for a vacation to our summer town, and she would like to do something special together; so I decide to take her to my favorite place, the ruins of antique town of Erythrai with an amphitheatre, the temple of Athena on top of a hill, an excellent sunset spot as well. We are there taking pictures in the evening sun, and my friend insists on taking a photo of me wearing her fancy sunhat with a great design and beautiful colors. So I do, and it fits perfectly and the design looks so lovely on me. I say to her, “So maybe I should look for a hat like this”.
So this was Thursday. On the next day,Friday that is, I have a package arriving for me. It is from one of my oldest dear friends, a belated birthday present. I also know what’s in it, because she had told me, it is a summer bag she made for me. So I open the package and in it I find not only the promised bag, but also not one but two summer hats! One in lovely shades of blue and the other a straw hat – and both, I mean both, in the exact design as the fancy hat from the day before. Perfect fit, lovely selection of hats delivered right away!

Magic Ride No.3
I am sort of a minimalist you could say. I have my favorite things to wear, I don’t mind wearing them over and over, they are my comfort zone. An old summer skirt I bought many years ago from the market, I still wear it but I notice a little hole in the front somewhere, and I think to myself, I wish I can find another one like this maybe another color, but I bought it many years ago, maybe difficult. Next morning, it is market day, we first do the farmers market fresh produce rounds, a weekly must and then I continue to the clothing stalls, which I rarely have time for, once or twice a season. And in one of the few stalls I look at, I find the exact skirt in 3 different colors! Make your pick, I try two, pick the black one, a perfect fit, big smile…

More of these seem to be happening, these daily magical moments, that remind me I am in conversation with the magical creation that embraces, listens, gives, transforms and weaves all our lives into a beautiful carpet of love. I realize the conversation is easier when I listen more, surrender more and do not insist on my way.

I see and live the wink and a smile and feel so grateful for it. I hear the song and join in:

Love is in the air, everywhere I look around…
