I am sitting on the veranda of our summer house looking at the blue sea over the trees and the bushes. Farther into the view are the mountains of Chios island.
This corner of the world, this little corner here is somehow mostly protected from the sounds of civilisation. Even though there are houses right next to us, and even though there are hotels and some other houses a bit in the distance, they don’t intervene – rather they cannot seem to make their voices heard among the wind, the waves and the cicadas. The wind has always been the signature sound of this region and combined with the sea and the hypnotising song of cicadas, it creates a vacuum or a tunnel that pulls one into a different dimension.
I tune in.
The sounds create such a space that my mind tunes out and I am completely with the beauty and music of nature. There is nothing special. It is an ordinary moment.
Yet I feel pulled deeper and deeper. It is as if just by being with it, nature is opening up, the moment is opening up like a flower, like flower after flower, revealing color after color. It is as if when I choose to be with this moment, “now” decides to share worlds and worlds of information with me, a knowing and wholeness impossible to describe with words. Maybe this is what feels like a deep dive into the ocean, with unknown depths.
So much to know, so much beauty in one little moment, I think to myself one could spend hours, days, an entire lifetime relaxing into this and there would still be more unfolding. Without going anywhere, one can travel into magical places of wonder and beauty.
I feel my heart expanding. I feel me expanding – so much so that I cannot be the container, something bigger is holding this and it is expanding, we are expanding.
I tune in, I tune out.
I tune in again.
The wind, the waves, the cicadas, one tree, a flower, a branch, a bird, the blue, the green, the yellow, all of it is right here now waiting to take my hand.
Eternity is waiting to be discovered here in this one moment.
I take a deep breath…and dive in.
